Steven A. Lavietes

Steven A. Lavietes focuses on the defense of technical personal injury and medical malpractice actions in the New York and Connecticut State trial courts.  

For over 30 years with a prominent medical malpractice defense firm in Manhattan and currently a senior partner at Federico Schwartz Merolesi & Lyddane, LLP, Mr. Lavietes has handled over 1,500 cases representing corporate defendants, real estate owners and property management companies, insurance carriers, hospitals, and individual physicians.  He has managed a variety of cases including the defense of hospital and physician medical malpractice claims, premises liability cases involving elevator and construction-related accidents, lead paint exposure, property damage class actions, commercial litigation, and product liability actions.

Mr. Lavietes has specialized in defending ophthalmologists in all subspecialties, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, obstetricians/gynecologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, general surgeons and radiologists in professional liability lawsuits, as well as disciplinary proceedings before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct, and has resolved cases at mediation, arbitration, and trial.

Mr. Lavietes received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his law degree from the University of San Francisco.  In 1986, Mr. Lavietes was admitted to practice in all courts of New York and Connecticut.  Mr. Lavietes is also admitted to practice before the United States Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States District Court of Connecticut.
